Are these symptoms of a bad alternator ?
First of all normally when the car is running, the voltage on the dash meter reads around 14V. Today I had trouble starting it but got it started and the voltage was around 12V with the car running. Then I drove it home and next time it didn't start. Had it jumped, and it started but the voltage was reading around 10V. When I turn on the headlights it drops to almost 8V on the indash meter. If I'm driving real fast on the highway it reads around 11V.
I think it's the alternator but want to double check to make sure. I thought the alternator was a gradual failure, with me it just seems like it died overnight.
If it is, I have an 01 2.8Q with ATQ engine code and 8GL option. That means it's a 120A. Is there a way to tell if it's Valeo or Bosch? (Do I have to change out the alternator completely, or can I just change bushings, etc?)
Also, is this job difficult to do on the 2.8L?
Thanks!

Is there a way to tell if the altnernor is valeo/bosch without taking it out?
can it be figured out from the options? I know that it's a 120A alternator based on the option code on the trunk sticker.
