yeah sure...
I bought a spray bottle of GUNK Engine Degreaser.
Baggied off the air intake - left the engine cover ON. Then sprayed liberally all over the entire compartment (keep it off the exterior of the car though). Let it soak for about 5 minutes.
I used a soft bristled wheel brush to clean certain really dirty areas.
Then I took a hose, rinsed down the engine (don't use full blast - just spray it). You will see any oil that was on your engine hit the asphalt so park on an incline toward a drain if possible.
I GUNKed a second time on some heavily soiled areas and repeated. Rinsed until no oil was coming off the car in the water. Then I started the car and drove around for about 10 minutes to dry the engine and force any water out.
Then I went to it with a basic silicon protectant - any kind will do. Went over all the hoses, anything rubber (except belts of course) or plastic. I even cleaned everything else with a wet rag. Anything I could get at with my hands I cleaned.
The end result is shown in the pic!

One suggestion, skip the silicone protectant.
That stuff attracts dirt like you wouldn't believe. Wait one month, and run your finger across the engine cover, and your finger will come up black!
Some of the guys on the detailing forum use One Grand ERV. I like Griot's Vinyl and Rubber Dressing, and I know that doesn't attract dirt...and it leaves a nice satin finish...a like new appearance rather than something that looks like it's been rolled in bacon grease.
