Having trouble shifting. Clutch engages when pedal is about 3/4s up. Can't detect any slipping. Sometimes when I come to a stop I'm unable to find 1st. I can switch the engine off, restart it, then I can shift into 1st easily.

Sounds like clutch drag with your being able to switch it off and on then get it into gear. You might try double clutching it and see if that will help you get into first. Alas if it is clutch drag about the only thing that is going to fix it is to go into the clutch, although if the double clutch works that might get you by for a long time. Just don't grind the gears, that can get expensive fast.

Thanks David.Norton. I'll give the double clutching a try. The car has about 160,000 on it,so I guess if I have to get into the clutch, I might as well be prepared to put in a new one.
