Default Water stains on windshield - how to remove?

Just bought another A4 for the wife, and the windshield has some water stains on them that make it very hard to see past. You can see fine when it's dry, but if it's raining, these hard water stains retain the water so that the wipers can't clear the windshield and you can't see at all. What can get these off?
Christian J. Long

Default Vinegar, seconded. The acid(acetic) will disolve the mineral deposits. Careful, it will also take...

off your car's wax if spilled on the paint.

Default bon ami cleanser

about a year ago, road & track mag wrote that when wiper blade companies test wipers, they start with a windshield cleaned with bon ami cleanser. r&t did not elaborate on the amount, mixture, or procedure.
i know bon ami is less 'abrasive' and more 'cleanser' but have never tried this.
anybody know anything about this?
geo

Default Be careful which Bon Ami you use....

....the stuff in the can is not safe for glass according to the label. Looking at the Bon Ami web site, I see the "original" formula of Bon Ami is safe for glass....the problem will be locating the stuff. I've yet to see it on the shelf anywhere. The good news is that you can order it from the web site.

Bon Ami

Default and if that doesnt work...

...My wife's sunroof had the most stubborn waterspots I have ever seen. Even 00 steel wool AND vinegar wouldnt take them completely off. I assumed the glass was etched. I was wrong. On an impulse I got some Griot's glass polish and that did the trick.
