Default Window tints -- 3M much better? Also. . .

Hey Everyone,
I'm looking to apply a light tint to my windows to cut down interior heat in the summer. (yes, I know summer's over now :-) )
I have searched the archives, There are mentions of SolarGard, Madico, SunGard (I got a good quote for this product), Llumar, and 3M tints. Most companies warranty their non-metallic tints for only 3 to 5 years, is this true for 3M non-metallic tints as well? (couldn't figure out 3M's site). Is there a real difference between these brands? It seems from the tint question posted below, that Houston drivers prefer 3M tints.
Also, I would like to apply the tint to my front windows as well. However, this is illegal in my province. Is there any technique that would allow the tint film to go all the way to the top of the glass so that it looks like there's no film? I only wish to have a light tint anyway, so it shouldn't be too obvious if there's a way to tint all the way to the top of the windows.
Thanks for your help.
James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver

Default I have...

Madico's Autolux tint. 35% transmittance on all my windows including the fronts. I'm in CA, and this is illegal, but I haven't had any problems so far with the authorities (knock on wood). With the 35%, the heat in the car is greatly reduced, but the windows aren't TOO dark. The tint that I got is a greenish hue, and it looks great on my black A4 with onyx interior. The windows come a little smoked from the factory anyways, and it is greenish too. This tint just adds to that a bit. I can best describe the darkness as that you can see the person driving the car in the daytime, but at night it looks completely dark. In the sunlight though, it just looks like a really classy medium tint. Since it is on all windows, it almost looks like an original factory job. Most cops here in CA won't pick on you for that.
Mike

Default Re: SunGard warning

I had this tint film in my old 4x4 and, although it looked very nice, it also scratches easily so take heed. I believe Llumar has scratch resistant film.
