WOA Stage 3 Clutch Installed!
<center><img src="http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/worx/clutch.jpg"></center><p>The Boyz at Euroclass installed my Stage 3 Werks of Art Clutch and Light Weight Flywheel today.
Initial impressions: I'm all Grins!
Its fantastic! Plenty of bite - the clutch pickup is about an inch off the deck - and it really grabs and bites. Pedal feel is like stock (certainly no heavier!), although it does engage lower down (which I really like). It is easily driven like the stock clutch but with better bite. The 6 Puk in the Stage 3 is really worth the extra $ over the stage 2 - its just as easy to drive, but has better bite and grip off the line. The clutch can still be slipped and as its sprung is quite forgiving - but will remind you with a bit of a shudder if you get lazy with the left pedal.
The light Weight flywheel is definately on my list of 'Best, Must Do Mods'. The car now revs more freely, is more fun to drive, accelerates faster (due to less mass for the engine to spin up) and rev matching is now a dream. Additionally, revs no longer 'hang' like they used to with the heavy oem flywheel - this is really good news when accelerating hard through the gears as it gives more rpm to play with between gears due to the quicker drop off (if you get my drift... not sure I explained that very well) The car should come like this from the factory IMO. Although the OEM dual mass flywheel is nice for Ma & Pa John Doe - its not really in-line with a sporty Turbo Quattro car IMO and is a compromise between performance and lush luxury. I prefer a compromise between performance and streetability as a daily driver.
There is no discernable chatter from the light weight flywheel at all (even at idle) - chatter is only evident when the Air Con. is engaged (of course depressing the clutch totally eliminates it) - and hey.. even 300 thousand dollar porsches chatter with their light weight flywheels straight from the Stutgart factory! So I can certainly live with it. Its not objectionable and most ppl probably wouldnt notice it if it wasnt pointed out to them.
Obviously, I am still bedding the clutch in so launches are out of the question at the moment - but I have no doubt that this clutch will be good for some serious take-off's. (Not that I am into big launches anyway - but its nice to know that it wont slip)
Overall I am very very happy with the new clutch and flywheel - its more than I hoped it would be in terms of its performance, handling and driveability.
Big Thank-you to Juan at Werks of Art & Lucas for supplying the clutch, and to Louie and the Boyz at Euroclass for doing such a great job on the installation. Great Job as always guys!

i installed the sachs sport clutch w/ lightened flywheel...same impressions...
the lighter flywheel makes the car feel so much more nimble. the hanging revs are gone, that's a big improvement.

some answers...
the lightweight flywheel will not upset the balance of the car at all...
the only part i know of is when you run an underdrive pully and a lightweight flywheel then the rod bearings tend to give due to this balancing act. you are safe to go down as low as 7lbs on a flywheel if you dare to do so. but with a low weight on the flywheel your chances of stalling out is very high. 15 is ideal for every one easy to drive 12 gets a bit too light for most people 7 is insane.
