Default 2002 A4 Water Pump/heat

Hi Folks..need some help. Living in Germany w/the military for a year..left the S4 back at home, and bought a 2002 A4 6sp w/APR here. 150k miles. Single owner before me....

Engine temp is rock solid - gauge doesn't move. Drives great (though, wish I could do more than 110 here on the autobahn) What doesn't work is interior heat - I can't get any heat out of vents. Even on 'HI'. And - Germany is getting cold. Local dealer says it's the water pump....at about 600 Euros. And then, probably the timing belt (which makes sense from what I've heard...)....

Thoughts? Again - the engine temp gauge is perfectly centered. Just, I can't get heat into the car...

Thanks.

Could be any number of things from the water pump to air in the cooling system to a bad head gasket, if you do a google search you will find a ton of discussion on the b6 platform and heating/cooling issues and ways to check things out. Audi rigged the crap out of the last version of the 1.8t in order to get it to meet ever more strict emmisions, they run the engine at 230* F (basically an overheat conditon vs the older 1.8t at 190*) which has caused alot more head and head gasket failures, in order to pull this off they turned over control of the cooling fans and the thermostat to the ecu, but using china quality electrical components has been the downfall to the B6.

I will toss in heater core as well. It has very small passages and clogs easily unless the coolant was maintained consistently. Had to replace one in a car with 200K + miles and solved the problem.

Grab the two large hoses between the battery and brake booster going into the firewall. That leads to your heater core, if they are not hot start with flushing your core.
