2002 Audi A4 3.0 DTC P0391 P0300 P0304 P0305 P0306
Hi guys. New to the site but I'm having an issue with a recent purchase of mine. The car is an 02 A4 3.0 it has an issue with one of the cam position sensors. It's throwing code P0391 implausible signal from bank 2 sensor 2 (CPS). Along with the others listed in the title. I've searched and haven't found someone who has just one CPS everyone has multiple codes for cam position sensors. I've tried replacing the sensor with a known good one from my other a4 to no avail. With the codes cleared The car starts up and runs smooth for a second, then sounds like something kicks in (sort of like how an ac pulley will turn on) then it runs like complete crap misfiring on the entire drivers side bank.
My question is. Ive ruled out the sensor, its clearly sending a signal (an implausible one) is it possible that just the driver side exhaust Cam is out of time? I've read threads with timing issues but usually their cars throw multiple CPS codes from multiple sensors. Not just the one.

I've read that 02 & 03 3.0's have had issues with cams wearing out prematurely due to some flaw in the manufacturing process. Maybe your problem is due to a bad cam, not a cam being out of time.
Having said that, I've got an 02 3.0 with 274k miles on it and I've never had a cam issue, so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that you do.
