Default 2003 a4 Quattro won't go into gear

I bought this as a project car and just got it running after replacing some relays and coolant flange. Went to take it for a test drive and it won't go into any gear except 5th. It grind Into every other one but won't engage. Clutch was supposedly changed 2000 miles ago. Any ideas would be appreciated.

So, if it is a project and not running, I'm not sure why you believed whoever told the clutch was replaced. Anyway, since you have no history, would make sure system is serviced and bled, it doesn't appear there is anything obvisouly wrong with the linkage, and then pull the tranny. Somewhere in that process, it will become obvious what the issue is.

I know that the clutch had been replaced because I have the receipts and talked to the shop that did the replacement of the clutch. I haven't had the time to look at it but it feels like it's in the linkage. Or so I hope

Still doesn't make sense to me tho since I have 5th sometimes and reverse but grinds into every other gear. Linkage looks good to. So I don't see the need to pull the tranny to check clutch and pressure plate ?

Did you check the servicing on the clutch hydraulics? Did the shop replace the pressure plate as well? Did they use OEM parts?

Yes they used oem parts and replaced the pressure plate as well. I'm going to bleed the entire system tonight. Is their any order I should do it in ? Master cylinder, slave cylinder, abs then brakes ?

Sounds like a release problem. Either the master or the slave has failed, or were not bled.

Rule I have always used is start with the one furthest away, so right rear, left rear, right front, left front, ABS, and finally slave.

Sounds good I appreciate the help. I'm gonna pick up a one man bleeding system today and hopefully it helps

Clutch master and slave. Nothing to do with brakes.
