What I do is yes compress the tensioner, unbolt the cam and then tilt it up and move it over a tooth.

okay question i fixed the timing issue no more misfireing but the engine is making a loud diesel like noise still under 2k rpm and i have some white smoke coming up from the engine could it be the lifters? also is the tensioner supposed to move up and down as it turns?

I the diesel noise, so you mean like a loud rattle from the engine, is it coming from that tensioner area? The tensioners can be bad and not tensioner the chain and rattle like crazy.

Well the tensioner is brand new i will double check

i was reading that to establish oil pressure to the new tensioner you have to crank the engine without coil packs while manually holding up the tensioner to establish pressure is this true ?
