3.0 quattro oil change
Hello guys,
I have a simple question: what type of oil and what type of oil filters do you use? I talked today with my mechanic and he said that Castrol 5W 40 is the recommended one for audi/vw cars. I didn;t ask about the filter type. I search the web for information but I found a lot of different explanations (of course, multiple types of oils can be used, but this one will work? and also I would like to know that type of filter to use..too many out there and I cannot decide). Also, did you removed you snow screen from you intake? Mine looks pretty bad, and I want to know if it;s ok to spend 30 $ on a new one.
Thank you guys!

I use Castrol Syntec 5W-40 on my 3.0; it's full synthetic and says it meets Audi spec. Snow screen reaplcement is up to you. I did mine and think the part cost $25 from my dealer. It's an easy replacement; probably a little over kill but I guess the Audi engineers wanted to make sure the main air filter didn't get too wet from snow actually making it's way into the intake system.

Good reply, and I could not agree with you more..but I was thinking that maybe I care a little to much..and that there is no point to do some of the stuff to the car. Thank you!
BTW I saw today an '81 diesel vw rabbit (golf)..the engine still very strong after all these years and half of its life without an air filter I know that you cannot compare..but still very funny.

i've an 02 A4 3.0 and have been using 0W-30 Mobil 1 since i bought it with 6000 miles on it. i've read that on the manual which says that you can use 5-30 or 0-30 but didn't mention 5-40. so what do you think?

Ok, I didn;t look into the manual..I was thinking that maybe is out of date and they have created better oils in 10 years. But you see my problem..one guy says something..another a different thing . I have to investigate more. Thanks

Look what I found:
you are requires SYNTHETIC oil ONLY and it should be 0w40 or 5w40 they run at high RPM's and high temperature's so they need an oil that can withstand both. they also need to be Audicertified 505.00 or better or be an ACEA A2 or A3 spec oil. most 5w30 oils both conventional and synthetic by most manufactureers do not meat those requirements. Audis engines require a high-temperature/high-shear viscosity of 3.5 cP or greater. the majority of 5w30 oils are below that (closer to 2.9-3.2 cP) even when runnign the correct wieght (5w40) you need to look for the certifications.
So I think that does not matter if its a 0W-40, or 5W-30 or 5W-40 as long that meets the requirements of manufacturers. I will look tomorrrow in the owner's manual and I will also go to see some oil labels.

Hey guys, after reading my owner;s manual for my 02 A4 3.0 quattro, 6 speed manual, I found that the first oil that was is this car was a SAE 0W-30 but they say that if you don't have this oil you can use also SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40. And also I found a nice kit from ECS http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...Kit/ES2528798/
Strange fact: In my maintenance guide the say that the timing belt has to be changed at 105.000 miles or 155.000km. I had mine did at 90k miles, but why everybody change their belt so early if in the guide they say 105k miles??
Thanks for your reply.
