Re: A4 3.0 how to change oil ?
If all that info is overwhelming, then just go to your local audi dealer, buy a filter, go to your favorite auto parts store and buy either synthetic (for extended changes ) or regular oil, wt? you will see tons of **** debates on the issue here, in the v-6, any fuel efficent wt will work from 0w-40 to 0w-30. Unless you plan on keeping the car for 300,000 miles or 20 year, those will work. Jack it up, remove plastic covering from bottom, drain oil, change filter, add almost 7 qts of oil...start with 61/2 and check dipstick. Put everything back together...go play, the car will be there tomorrow.

I leave the belly pan off. Oil extractor pump is nice for quick changes. 15w-40 or 10w-40 Hi-Miles
That will keep consumption down. Synthetic oil is unnecessary in V6 with the exception of winter, 5w-40. Of all the 15w-40s I've used, Mobil Delvac 1300S is super-smooth. 10w-40 Hi-Miles is a great choice and Mobil now makes a SYNTHETIC 10w-40 Hi-Mi Mobil 1 that can go at least 8000-9000 miles. 15w-40 HDEO or plain 10w-40 Hi-Miles can go 6000-8000. I would never change oil before 6000.
The 10w-30 Mobil 1 Hi-Mi is thick enough to do the job as well. Don't use 30 weight in the V6 with the exception of MaxLife SYNTH, German Syntec 0w-30 or the M1 10w-30 Hi-Mi. If cost is no prob (again, I stress synth oil not needed) Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT is now at WalMart $22/4q. oem filters are frivilous too, I use Puralator or STP. BOSCH Premium #3500 is at AutoZone for $6.
DON'T LET ANYONE TALK YOU INTO 20W-50
Here is a pic of inside an Audi V6 after 122k of 10k intervals, Syntec 5w-50.

See, just mention the word oil...
try amsoil series 2000 0w-30, 25-35,000 mile drain intervals, change filter every 6 months, been doing it for over 10 years, have two high milage vehichles with that plan...no engine problems, no gas milage changes, no burning of oil. Rarely have to add more than 1 qt over one years time. Both cars run as well if not better than the day we got them, a 1999 maxima with 120,000 miles, and a 93 ES300 with 160,000 miles. No non scheduled maintance work done on either car.
