Default A4 temp gauge faulty

My 2002 A4 temp gauge or sensor is faulty...it registers normal temp, then needle drops to cold, then back to normal...more often, it wont register any heat for at least 10 min of driving...H

Sounds more like a broken wire than a faulty sensor and so unless you have had the dash out recently, less likely to be a dry joint on the instrument panel and more likely at the motor end. Depending on how long since the sensor (the green one) was replaced, I would be replacing that one and checking the wiring connections and if the wires on the back of the plug are damaged.
