how much?
over all how much did this cost you and would you recommend it to someone that really has never done any engine work on an Audi? i really dont want to spend the 2000 dollars for the timing belt, as necessary as it may be.

520 Excellent write-up.I have a question.I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding the camshaft timing adjustment process.Once you have installed the camlock tools I assume the cams are immobilized ? Prior to tightening the cam gear bolts, you describe using a tool to set the cam timing. How does this tool permit adjustment of the cam position if they are locked down by the camlock tools ? Also if the crank is at TDC compression and the cams are immobilized why would their position need to be changed ? I assume that the reason the cam gears have to be allowed to "freewheel" is so you can get the belt on ? Otherwise wouldn't it be possible to not undo the can gear bolts and just leave them where they are relative to the cams Thanks

There is a little diffrence in size of protrusions on cam gears and indentations of the very belt.( and vise versa) This little space is why you want you'r gear off before you put the belt on. The gears should be pushing the belt and shouldn't be loose at all. And while you're making sure that that is the case you're cams should be imobilized.
