Default Yet another window thread

I hate to be a noob, especially since I just ended a long term relationship with my STI and upgraded to my A4, but I have seen hundreds of posts about the window issues, but none that speak to my particular issue.

Please be kind. My window on the passenger side (sorry 2005 A4 quattro), will go down about two inches and stop, it also will go back up with no effort. The issue I have is that I do not hear the "crunching" noise as described, it doesnt go all the way down, then never back up, it just rolls down an inch or two quietly.

I am sure this is not as unique as I am painting it, however I didnt want to tear apart the whole door if this was an easier fix (like button memory or something).

Thanks in advance for the help.

Never heard of a memory mode, only the one touch which puts it all the way down. Besides, if it were some sort of CCM setting, would assume it would work on the driver window as well.

Does it move "freely" for the inch or does it seem to start to bind just before stopping?

Regulator is probably bad. The regulator binds causing the motor to draw more current and the module sees this and stops the window and rolls it back up. They dont always make awful noises depending on how they failed. remove the door panel and remove the motor, then try and move the window up and down in its tracks and see if it binds up. I have seen the felt guides fall apart and cause issues.
