A/C Woes: Compressor, Fan, or Other?
Greetings, I've searched through the archives and can't seem to find a path forward on determining why I am not getting cold air out of the A/C. Turning the A/C on, the two electric fans turn on to "medium" speed (not the jet turbine high speed) and the blower starts blowing air through the vents. Unfortunately, the air never gets cool. After giving time for the compressor to kick on, I have attached my gauge to the low-side port and it reads ~110 psi. Therefore, the compressor is never kicking on to generate a pressure gradient.
The question is why? The only code I have in VAG-COM is that one of the air flaps potentiometer is not reading properly. I have run the Basic Settings to reset all flaps up and down. Temperature and pressure readings via VAG-COM all seem appropriate, so it doesn't seem to be a sensor issue. If the compressor failed to work, I would expect that to throw a code (I may be wrong).
The two suspects are the fan control unit (I can't recall if it should go to high speed for the A/C or not) or the compressor, but I'm not sure how best to rule them out (frankly, both are such expensive replacements, the car isn't worth my trouble at this point).
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Not clear how VAGCOM works with regard to the HVAC, i.e. where it measuring the temp and pressure data. But, I doubt it is the fan, because it should cool, with them running the way you describe. You need to put a pressure tester on the high and low ports and determine what is really going on.
