Changes through the years
Hello gentlemen, i have an A3 8L at the moment, but im very interested in the B6, the car looks absolutely gorgeous !
So i plan to buy one from 2002-3 in a couple of months.
What i would very much appretiate to know is, what are the changes that were made to the car through its productions from 2000 till 2006.

I know between the 2002 and 2003 model year they added a 6 speed manual instead of the 5 speed for the 1.8T in 2002, also depending on packages the aluminum trim was made an option in 2003 were it was standard. Also the deletion of of rear heated seats in 2003.

USA models at least:
B6 was 02-halfway through 05.
04 onwards - no tilt or interior motion sensor alarm
, sharks fin antenna.
03 onwards: no rear heated seats
03 v. 02: interior trim from aluminum to fiberglass or something (darker).
04 onwards: 6 spd vs. 5 spd
I own 2 B6 A4's + an 04 Passat, all with the 1.8 motors. They are great, but now they're getting old, where previous sins catch up. VERY important - have it looked over by a mechanic that knows B6 Audis. I personally would try for less than 110k.
Watch out for
Sludge issues (Audi dealers didn't get religion on using full synthetic until 04 or so, and many had changes at 10k intervals - too long (5k is best). The sludge gradually blocked the oil pickup tube and starved the top end.
Suspension and bushing wear. There are 8 front control arms (yes, 8).
Leaks at the oil pan (removing it is a looong job).
Diff seals leaking.
I love my cars. The 1.8T is a great engine, one od Audi's best. I would stay away from the 3.0,and don't even think about the S4 with the V8, there are big issues with the timing chain tensioners, which when you hear the rattle, you're looking at an 8k repair bill.
I search for the Holy grail (orig owner, dealer serviced, under 100k).Theyre hard to find, but don't be in a hurry.
Lastly, I like the 02-03, because the shark fin detracts from the bullet-like design IMO. If you get one, put together a tool kit that has an extra-long #20 torx screwdriver, some masking tape, and two spare headlight. . bulbs. You have to remove thethe entire headlight assembly to change a bulb. It's not hard, and the dealer will nail you for a couple of hundred bucks.
And get the manual tranny (check clutch wear). Much more fun,and you don't have to worry about the auto tranny croaking on you, always possible over 100k.

Ah, lovely answer... though i dont understand much of it.
Though, im glad to hear you love the car.
Now, im from Bulgaria, i dont see myself getting something under 100k.
On the bright side my sister married a capable mechanic, and i have someone to look after what i buy.
Thanks for the reply !!!
