It is likely that your A/C has lost its charge. When the A/C is not functioning properly, the climate control goes into econ mode to protect the compressor. I'm guessing that wherever you take it will:

1) recharge the system
2) do an inspection for leaks (using dye)
3) recommend replacement of the leaking parts (assuming that there are some)
4) discharge the system to replace parts
5) recharge the system again

Because of the multiple charges, it can get expensive.

Good luck!

When mine started doing this, it was due to a punctured condenser unit. So, like gijsd says, your unit isn't holding a charge.

I would do a pressure test before dumping new refrigerant into a already leaky system.

I had the same problem after pulling off the front end of the car.

It was because I forgot to plug in the pressure sensor for the A/C condenser. It's that little plug to the right (facing the front of the car) of it.

Plugged it back in and A/C worked perfectly!
