Experience with Geico Insurance? Effect of 1 Speeding Ticket on Premium?
I recently got my first speeding ticket, and I'm wondering how much I should expect my insurance premium to go up. This is my first traffic violation.
I called Geico to ask about my situation but I did not want to provide my policy # to flag my account for their inspection. As a result, they would not give me any information. So I was hoping some of you could give me some input based on your experience with Geico or other insurance carriers.

no impact
i've never reported any ticket to GEICO and I understand that they rarely check your history, and then, only when you change coverage or let your policy lapse and need reinstatement. My policy gets cheaper and cheaper every year.

don't volunteer any info to them. if they find out, admit it & blame bad memory
or being too busy to call them, blah, blah. insurance companies have no resources to constantly check driving records of all drivers. i'm sure those with multiple infractions are monitored on regular bases, but i doubt it applies to otherwise good drivers.

depends how much you were speeding...
0-14 miles per hr usually will not yeild a surcharge the first time, 15- on will get you a surcharge all the time if they find out. Dont tell them as people have said. I used to work for Geico and they only review the policies that have had some sort of at fault claim usually or are suspect to fraud. They review last I heard of only 20% of their book of business

ehh.. i dunno about that... Get a new company anyways...
When i first applied for geico last year i had nothing on my record except a speeding ticket of 71 in a 65... most insurance companies dont even count that against you so i actually forgot to put it on when i apply for geico coverage. Without the ticket i was giving a quote of 1600 for the year in NJ. When I got the papers, they did notice the tickets and it effected my price, pushing it up to almost 2300 for the year. And its going to stay on your record until for FIVE YEARS for Geico, unlike 3 or 2 for most companies
. I would tell you to dump Geico anyways. Their prices are competitive but a family friend who is an insurance rep says they've been known to screw around with coverages to display a better price. He was right too.. my PIP was like 15K/30K and i picked the above average coverage through them.. Really should be like 150K/300K or 250/500K.. Havent been overly impressed with them in 6 months.. anyone happy with them?
