Default It's a mistake--I pointed it out to VW a while back, but VWoA is just as stupid as AoA

Couldn't admit that they made a mistake.

I said check the German VW site and you'll see that the correct volumes are there (converted: 15 cu. ft. for FWD and 14 cu.ft for AWD)--still didn't think their numbers could be wrong.

I actually went back to the dealer because I had looked in the trunks of both, couldn't immediately see any difference and then saw the 10 cu. ft. number on the web site...thought wtf???

After close inspection, you lose about 1 to 1.5" of height in the trunk--all the other dimensions are identical. This accounts for the 1 cu. ft, not 5!!!

I asked are you going to advertise the W8 (AWD only) as only having 10 cu. ft.??? They didn't have an answer. Check it out.

Arrogance beyond belief.

Default OK, an explaination...

I was referring to your line..."Although lots on here like to pretend.."

Your choice of words just came across really pretentious. Little kids and simple minded people like to pretend. I don't think too many of us took it as a compliment, although I could be wrong. Just IMHO. I'm just one of the "lots on here". I actually agree with you on a lot of things, including your thoughts on Audi and the A4. I agree VW and Audi are not worlds apart.

Default Funny, my VW Quantum is better than B2 Audis. B5.5 Passat is nicer than Uber-A4 plus... (m)

I choose a VW B5.5 over B6 Audi because of kneeroom. Getting back to the older cars, in Europe a Quantum is badged Passat, fyi. My Quantum is much better engineered than the equivalent Audi 4000S. Lights, doors, hood, seats and various mechanicals are better, period. VW had more time to re-engineer the car and does so with comfort in mind.(not a priority here) Same thing happened to B5 & B5.5 Passat, it is better than older Audi A4. Now, the new 2002 A4 is different, more of a sporty car even than it was before. If you can stand the kneeroom, get the Audi. Passat is now available with 1.8t and 4-Motion combo, so you can order that, if you want. Passat has no 6-sp and no 3.0l but that is about it. For the record, I ordered owned almost the first 2002 A4 anywhere. The kneeroom sucked do bad, I sold it with 9k and ordered a Blue 2002 Passat 4-Mo Wagon and the order got cancelled. The week it happened I went and bought a used '98 A4 Avant Tip and I love it. It's my 4th A4 and 11th Audi.

Default About four rings... which cost about $2K each

VW's are just as good as Audi... e.g. Edmunds review of the Jetta 1.8T "why buy an Audi"? I've had both (Audi 5000) and '89 Jetta, the former died at 100K, the later has 170K on it and still running...

Default Agreed that comment was pushing it too far...

but in my defence, I think that almost any negative comment, constructive or not, gets pounced on here like it is some sort of personal attack--like you are your car. That is the sign of an adolescent mindset, so perhaps I was thinking of that when I wrote the comment.

Default It's strange to me that you feel that way. I've found that negative comments...(long)

begat more negative comments. I don't see this as a complaint board, Audi has a number for that. If someone wants a solution to a problem they're having, I'll put in my 2 cents as well. But, if someone doesn't like their car or, or something about their car, or the dealer, or the manufacturer.... get another car! I want to hear what you do like, and your positive experiences. It's not naivete, its...comraderie.

Default Re: Explain the "Big Difference" between Audi and VW (long)

This is a more civilized response than what I've experienced in the past on this forum (maybe because they all upgraded to the S4 after 5 years.)

This is an old yarn for me. I visited this forum when Jason still had his initials on it (JET's A4.Org). Thankfully, Steve (Sherwood) helped me with the pro's and Con's but 1998 is a far cry from 2003. Back then, a Maxima could be overtaken with a $400 chip upgrade. Not today. But I digress....

If I were in the market again for a car, I personally would opt for an A6 quattro. Hey, it's been 5 years. The problem is, the trade-off. The Passat, fully loaded w/4Motion, is still to some degree, a practical car with lot's of leg space. The new A4 fully loaded (that's tough since you can really customize the car, a very good sell point I might add) only gives up a few inches of leg space desite the longer wheel base. But on average, expect to pay about 10-20% more. To me, the question still comes down to more practicality or more luxury. I can't answer that question for any of you.

Keep in mind, people come to the forums (Audiworld or ClubB5) from different perspectives. Not everyone comes in as a modification enthusiast; indeed, many come due to a search engine in Google for specifications or pricing on a car they may never modify. I started out as one of those, however, I am a fully certifiable mod. nut as most who have visited my website will attest. And I'm not done yet !
