Need a drive shaft
I don't know but looks like my car wanna test my patience. Last week I posted a thread under ( extended warranty) and Lyleswk thankfully advised not to go with it . The last weekend, I was going home after a 6 hr trip through Hercules snow storm (N.Y.) and about an hr from home I started to hear knocking sound while at lower speeds between 30-50 mph and the car feels heavy on acceleration. I passed by the mechanic and it turned to be the drive shaft need to be replaced. The new one is $1400 and the used is $250 so I got the used one and waiting for my mechanic to install it. The question here is that: does this mean it's time to get rid of it or what?

Did the universal joints on the drive shaft go bad? First time I have heard of that one.
I have 3 high mileage cars: 245K on a Mercedes, 170K on a Nissan, and 115K on the A4. My general rule of thumb is to only spend $1000 to $1500 a year on average on each car. Keep in mind that this number includes me doing about half the repairs, so it goes farther than having someone do all of it. Will see what others input is.

How many miles on it? If somebody removed the driveshaft for any repair and didnt put the drive shaft center bearing in the correct spot it will cause it to wear out faster, also if the outer CV joints got a bunch of dirt in them from being off before they will wear. I wouldnt let something like this keep you from enjoying the car, its just a repair, all cars need repair at some point.

Thanks for the input and I really appreciate it. I guess it's just my bad luck that I got to replace that part and hopefully my trustful mechanic will do the job in the right way. By the way, my car had 140k on the clock. Yeah for sure I missed the car for a couple of days as I had to leave it and go on a work trip, but I can't wait for the next repair
