Heat and A/C Panel Buttons
Quick question.... 2002 Audi A4 1.8T. I bought one cheap because windows, sunroof, and interior lights did not work. Replaced the CCM (bought one off ebay for $100) under the driver's floor and boom.. working...lol. Anyways, back to my question.. I wanted to get some a/c control panel stickers to touch up the face of the existing worn buttons. I have noticed that the Audi I have does not have an "OFF" button as all of the stickers do. Mine shows to have a "recirculation" icon rather than off, as if it's a recirculation for the floor or something. I power the panel off by the fan level (left button) all the way to low speed and then off. Why is this different than what I have been seeing? The top pic is a pic of my Audi. The bottom two are ebay pics of the panel and the button stickers that match. I have not seen a sticker set with two recirculate icons. Thanks in advance for intel on this.

The button above the ECON button is for manual recirculation and, as stated above by lyleswk, the button below the ECON button is for automatic recirculation.
Recirculation means the system isn't bringing in fresh air from the outside - it is just recirculating the air already in the cabin. I only use recirc on very hot days, when I find my HVAC can't cool the cabin to a comfortable level while bringing in fresh (hot) outside air.
In automatic mode, the HVAC system monitors the outside air and when it determines it isn't of good quality it goes into recirc mode.
As you have noticed, the only way to turn off the HVAC system is to keep hitting the fan speed lower button until the system goes off - there is no OFF button.
