Just heard back from vagparts about what is needed to upgrade standard seats to sport seats! (more)
For those who weren't following the thread from yesterday, I was checking with VAGparts to see if it's possible to upgrade the A4 sedan's normal seats (since we can only get the sport seats in the cabrio here) to the sport seats available in Europe WITHOUT having to replace the expensive airbag and all of the seat frame.
I heard back, and yes, it IS possible to do it without replacing the airbag and seat back frame. The seat base frame does need to be replaced, but that's a lot less than the whole thing! It looks like the info he gave is for a manual seat, so I have to see about power seats. I'm also going to see what EPi can do in the way of pricing.
The email from VAGparts with the prices and parts involved follows:
"well it's almost... as straight forward as you say!! you DO need to have a new seat base. The sports set base is longer for the extendable leg support part of the seat!!
Here's the details, all are in Uk Pounds, the US $ rate is about 1 Uk = 1.7 USA
Seat base cover cloth 100.91
Seat base cover leather 212.91
seat base foam 36.35
Seat base frame 171.08
Padding for leg support 10.26
Leg support upper part 15.76
Leg support lower part 6.86
Handle for leg adjustment 9.87
Trim for leg support 4.29
Padding for backrest 36.35
Back rest cover cloth 100.91
Back rest cover leather 212.91
Backrest heating element 39.50
seat base heating element 54.63
There are many options on the seat cover materials and also about 6 different seat bases!! so for each car that wanted to do this, I would HAVE to have that cars data sticker to make sure I get the correct parts for them.
So all in all, it's not that bad really! and can be done!! I'd guess... shipping to be *about* 80-90 UK per seat if we shipped each seat to each person, or quite a bit less!! if we could ship all the seat parts to just one person!!
What do you think?

Yeah, it's too steep at that price, but we'll see. I can't imagine what the S4's OEM Recaros (more)
must cost, if this is how much the normal sport seats cost.
(I mention the OEM Recaros because of being able to keep the side airbags - aftermarket would be MUCH cheaper I'm sure)
