Manual Transmission Won't Shift in Gear
I have a 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro
It won't shift into any gear with the car running.
The clutch wasn't slipping at all before this happened and it was going into gear great.
When the car is on and the clutch is all the way in the car is in a gear it will still move forward slowly.
I replaced the slave cylinder since it was easy to do and cheap. That didn't fix it. I was able to bleed the slave to get pressure back in the pedal again.
So two questions:
If the master cylinder was bad would I be able to bleed the system and get pressure back in the pedal after the slave was replaced. This is what I was going to try next before just taking the tranny out.
Also does anyone have any other thoughts on what is could be that would be easier then a whole clutch job?

Replaced a leaking slave cylinder on a 300ZX turbo and all that was required was to bleed the system. I believe you have another issue like bad pressure plate. How many miles, any indication via clutch travel, or were there any weird noises?

Has 195,000 miles. When I bought it with 140,000 the guy said the clutch was replaced. Of course who knows if it really was.
Clutch travel hasn't changed that I noticed.
The only odd thing was the inside smelled really bad as soon as it wouldn't shift. Almost like as if someone was riding the pedal.
