I dug an old key fob out of a drawerdrawer, put in a new battery, but it's still not functioning. The other one works fine. I tried the reset procedure from the manual, but nothing. I deduce from this that the fob itself is bad, or is there something else I can try? Thanks.

That happens to most people who mainly use one Fob. What works for me is I put my key in the ignition, switch it to the on position without starting it, then press and hold down the lock button ( or the unlock button, I can't remember?) on the FOb for 5 seconds. Turn to off position, remove your key then test the lock/unlock buttons. Is that the procedure you tried?

Yes, I did that procedure. I think the board is bad. I'll order a new one, only 75 or so.

You will have to get the key sync'd with the immobilizer on the car and my understanding is that only the dealer can do this. It will run you another 100 to 150 dollars...

I just did the reset on one of my 2001 S4 key fobs after a battery replacement … and it now works again!
