Default problems after replacing coolant temp sensor

I replaced the sensor in my 04 1.8T tonight only to find the cooling fan running full blast once I started the car up. Did I do something wrong or get a bad sensor?

Where did you get the sensor?

Could be a faulty sensor. Typically it's recommended that you always replace sensors like that with OEM units.

I had a similar issue upon cold starts when my temp sensor was bad.

Try disconnecting the battery to reset the ecm, that may help. I just replaced mine with an after market one, and it works properly.

Apparently it fixed itself. The car wouldn't start. So I did some trick I found online and it started. CEL came on and I cleared it. Then it's been normal ever since.
