Default Purchasing a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T (Opinions)

Hey guys just wanted some opinions on whether or not I should purchase an 05 a4. A private dealership has one for $6000 with about 159km on it, car is in good condition and I have already seen it and test drove it. The dealer has agreed to have my mechanic who specializes in German cars take a look at it before I finalize anything. Now what I mainly want opinions on is if this is worth it for an 18 year old to purchase. I've done my budgeting and I can easily afford the car and maintenance and I do understand what maintenance is required (Come from a family that only drives German cars). So how reliable are these cars and are there any big issues I should be aware of? I've done a lot of research but i'm still conflicted about making the purchase.

Thanks, Ken

I own and drive a B6 A4 Quattro 6MT. Bought it new in 2005 just before the face lift. It has continually served me well. Updated coil packs replaced under manufacturer warranty eight years ago, and recent transmission servicing were the major work done outside of normal wear items. I stick to 5K oil and filter servicing too.

I think with the right B6, you too will have the pleasurably ownership experience as I have had this past 10 years.

They are good cars. Just maintain it. Oil changed full synthetic every 5k miles. Get the auto transmission fluid changed and keep it changed every 30-40k Make sure the timing belt has been done and these cars are solid 200k mile cars. whatever that Is in KM lol.

Since your family has had German cars, you probably know this, but this car could cost you a couple of thousand dollars suddenly, and without trying. As long as you're OK with that, go for it.

coming from a german car owning family you should know some of the go-to's: timing belt/chains. cooling system, old(and with Audi) PLENTY of plastic pcv ,etc. Just bought an 03 1.8tq 5spd, and as much as i love the comfort and driveability. i miss my E39 beemer tons, shhh.

But ya, give it a good look over by your mech. My 03 has 160k miles and ALL AUDI PARTS still, one owner Gem. Dont rush, find the right one for you, Good Luck!
