Hi guys, I'm visiting my mom in California and she pointed out this random ticking noise on her 2004 A4 3.0 Cabrio that comes from the driver's side of the dash and seems to be linked somehow to the accelerator.

It only happens for the first few minutes of driving (makes no sound when sitting still) and the frequency of the clicks speed up when you press on the accelerator and randomly clicks less frequently when you let off the gas.

The best way I can describe it is it sounds like the clicking of a mouse button.

I've searched the archives and seen a couple posts that sound similar, but no one has responded with an answer for what it is!

And she's taken it to the dealer and asked them about it- of course she can't show them the clicking since the car is warmed up by the time she gets there! They had no idea.

My 2002 A4 does the same thing. I noticed it only does it when the secondary air pump is still on. I think it's a relay near the ECU getting old and loud. I've noticed things get louder as they get old. ha

Anyway, mine just sounds like a relay. Nothing I'm worried about for now.
