Temperature Sender - Temp Gauge Not Working
I got in my car after work and the temperature gauge was acting nice and goofy. The fan and climate control was working fine (blowing hot air, not cold air). It seems as if it's either working or not working. I looked through some postings and saw someone with the same problem and they said it was the "temperature sender". I looked all over online and didn't see anything. Anyone have any advice? I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow.

My car has this exact problem and sounds like a leaf-blower detailed in the article Merkin linked.

My question is how urgent does this need to be fixed? Does this faulty sensor affect driveability? Other than not knowing that my car is overheating and about to explode, do I need to get this fixed immediately? I just noticed this problem two days ago.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Swapped out the G28 ECT Sensor and all is good now. The swap only took me about a half hour but it was sort of a PITA because you're working blind and either have to have child size hands or work very methodically to avoid dropping parts behind the engine.
I drove it for a week or two before the fix, because my problem was intermittent ,with no adverse effects, just the annoying high speed fan blowing occasionally.

Hey guys, I've been lurking on the forums for a while but now I have a reason to post. 2005 A4 1.8T - I am experiencing the same leaf blower noise when the engine starts after being cold. I had a faulty ECT which I replaced using the green sensor purchased from Audi. The Engine temp now works again but I am still getting the hi speed fan noise. Any ideas as to what this might be?

Does the ECU sensor fix in the audi tech thread work for 2008 Audi TT? Or is this only for 1st generations?
