Default Advice sought…sell or hold on to '06 A4?

I have a 2006 A4 2.0t Quattro with a little over 99,000 miles on it and in good condition (body, paint, interior). "Routine" maintenance" (oil, filter, etc.) has always been done on a required (scheduled) or as needed basis. (The latter category includes the recent replacement of the timing belt, front exhaust pipe (flex section)/sleeve, and upper crank case valve/hoses.) "Repairs" include the replacement of the forward right & left upper control arms @ 94,500 mi., and the intake camshaft/fuel pump tappet/ high pressure mechanical fuel pump (yeah, that factory-induced problem) and the turbo boost control valve @ 88,500 mi. My question is…recognizing that maintenance costs are inherently high for this car, and that there will obviously be numerous things requiring attention in the future (meaning mucho additional $ spent), what, in your opinion, are the costs/benefits for keeping the car vs selling it at this stage? I've been told that 200,000 plus miles is not an unreasonable expectation for this model, assuming conscientious, routine maintenance & repairs, but at what cost? Bottom line, based on your experiences, would this be a good time to sell it (given what's been done up to this point and what may be in store), or not? Thanks!

Not including wear and tear things like tires & brakes, budget $2000-3000 per year for future failed or big maintenance items. You know exactly what has already been replaced and what needs to happen next.

Next question - what newer car could you buy for that same $2000-3000 per year and will it be/feel better than your current Audi, and be guaranteed not to need repairs?. Remember you might not need repairs in a given year, but will have to make car payments.

For myself, I plan on maintaining/repairing and keeping my A4 Avant until it "dies". Reasons -

  • mine was the last year they bought 6 speed manual transmission A4 Avants into North America.
  • I have every option except Navigation, the exterior/interior is pristine and I am currently at 97,000 km and everything drives great.
  • it's a rare vehicle - Audi told me 13 with my spec were sold in Canada during the 2008 model year
  • it provides all the space I need for my summer and winter activities
  • I could not replace my Avant with anything better for the cost of say 3 or 4 years worth of repairs.
  • my Avant won't depreciate in value now as quickly something newer
  • even if I did decide to sell 3-4 years from now, I would still likely get $6000 for it (Canadian market here)
