How Screwed Am I?
So I recently bought a 2006 Audi A4 with 125k miles on it. I took it in to get it serviced because it was really low on power (not a good sign already) and found out that it needed a high pressure fuel pump, cam lobe etc (which I suspected from my research). However, the dealer suspected damage to the cylinder head as well because pieces of the cam follower potentially fell into the engine. How likely is it that damage to the head occurred? I nearly threw up at the worst case scenario price they quoted me. Please give me some good news guys

There is little room for good news unfortunately.. This is a horrendous design flaw with this engine, and I'm amazed that Audi wouldn't cover this failure this close to the 120k mileage. I'm at the point where I won't even consider buying a 2.0t unless I can pull the pump and inspect the follower and the cam..
Regarding damage to the engine internals, I have no idea, but I'd think that if anything got into the oil flow, it would be trapped by the filter, not sprayed around inside the engine.

I had this problem on my B7 at 110,000 miles, but was covered. I can truly say that you probably only had cam lobe and fuel pump issues at most.....I really wouldn't worry about cylinder head issues as much yet. At most, this is a 1000-1500 dollar job that requires new camshaft, hp fuel pump, cam follower and oil change.......
