Default Is this normal for this car?

Hi. So I'm looking to buy an Audi A4, and I found one I love. It's a 2006 Audi A4 AWD 2.0T quattro 4dr Sedan (2L I4 6A). It has automatic 6-speed transmission and 105,600 miles. It's had one owner, been fully serviced including full timing belt, it has all new brake rotors and pads front and rear, 4 new tires, no accidents, and seems to be in excellent condition. Plus it is a great price. However, when I test drove it, and pressed on the accelerator, it felt bubbly, almost as if there was oil bubbling underneath the pedal. It felt like the engine was straining and I had to press hard. I was in low gears the whole time. The brake also was difficult, in the sense that I had to push pretty hard. I am coming from a Volvo wagon to this, and have never driven an Audi before, so I want to know if this is normal. The dealer told me that it was due to the turbo and was just how Audis feel, but when I looked up this issue no one else seemed to be experiencing it. He also told me that there was an exhaust leak that he would fix, if that has any relevance to this issue. So is this normal for this Audi and if it is not then what could be causing it? Thank you!!

The autos are very weak. Look for a manual.

I would pass on that - an auto transmission which doesn't move through the gears and a hard but unresponsive brake pedal doesn't sound like a good deal.

Find another one for sale and drive it. Then you'll know if what you feel is normal or not. I would think not but driving another car with the same engine/trans is your best bet.

Our 2006 Avant has the manual transmission and I haven't driven the automatic but our manual is plenty peppy and accelerates well and stops well also. The throttle seems pretty responsive and I don't have to really stomp on the brakes. So based on what you wrote I'd say something sounds wrong with that car - the duke's advice to find another example to drive is good advice. I don't know what year your Volvo was but all the ones I have driven were turbocharged and had more turbo lag than the A4. I feel like the turbo lag in the A4 isn't too bad - certainly nowhere near Swedish turbo lag I've had in our Volvos and Saabs of the past.

I don't think its a transmission issue...I'd have the car inspected by a tech...Sounds more like a turbo issue. If there's any play in the turbine...it won't make enough power to get in the higher gears...and feels fluttery and not very responsive...and gets worse from there depending on the condition of the turbo. You said it's an 06? That's even before the new K03S turbos...which you probably have the original K03... Considering a new K03S is about $900.00...plus install....Unless the car is about a $2,500.00 additional discount...I'd pass too.

If you find out it is the turbo...you'll need to replace other things along with it...such as the plastic diverter valves are prone to failure. That year is also still FSI...not TSI. So you might want to consider that to...TSI is way better. They made alot of improvements over the FSI days. You'll need to look at 2010 and above though....

Not sure if you ever bought the car but I thought the same thing about mine when I got it. Then I put the shifter in Sport Mode (S) and realized the economy programming of the automatic sucks.

The transmission still sucks in performance. The DSG dual clutch in my VW was miles ahead of the audi in terms of performance.

I would think the hard to stop issue may simply be the new brakes and rotors weren't broken in or may actually just have been cheap autozone type of junk.
