Radiator Fans Keep Running!
So I’m having the same issues that I’ve read all over the Audi blogs – my fans won’t turn off, even after the key is removed, thus draining my battery. I took it to my local shop and they replaced the battery and here’s what they deduced:
They scanned for codes and got:
P0456: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0456 (P0456 Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected)
P1602: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...0/P1602/005634 (18010/P1602/005634 - Power Supply B+ Terminal 30: Voltage too Low)
They tested all vehicle components to diagnose the condition and all they could determine was that it points to an ECM defect or internal short. They tested the cooling fan relay; the fan control module; the CTS; the coolant temp sensor and thermostat. The one thing they didn’t check was the HPFP but he said he was pretty sure it wasn’t the root. The LAST THING I want to do is take it to an Audi stealership but he said that they are really the only one’s who work on ECM’s – replacing or otherwise.
Curious though, is there anything near the driver side front panel/wheel well that could have caused this? I only ask because it just so happens I got into a fender bender the same time all this occurred and there’s a minor dent in the front drivers side panel. Long shot, I know but I thought I’d ask.
Do you guys have any other suggestions? Thoughts? Please help!

I had this exact problem and it was because of the relays that are under the ECU. Water got in to the ECU holder and there is no drain so the relays shorted out. My car is a 2007 3.2 A4

My mechanic checked and said while he couldn't fully get in the ECU (not sure why), there was no indication of a leak or water. Are Audi dealerships the only one's who can open it?

Lo and behold, the ECU did have water in it! There was a crack along the top right of the box and one of the relays was totally rusted out. Ordered a new one and as soon as it comes in, I'm putting all back together. Any suggestions on what type of epoxy to use to seal that box? I was thinking of maybe having it professionally done.
