Satellite radio installation

Satellite radio installation
Hi,
I went to the dealer to see how much it would cost to have a Sirius receiver installed. Well with 2 hours labor they wanted almost $800. Looking at some previous posts it looks like the install of the receiver in the trunk looks easy, however, moving the CAN-bus connector looks harder with possibility of damage to the car's trim. Some posts seem to indicate that not all cars need to have the connector moved. Is there any way to tell if the connector is in correct position without taking the interior trim apart? I know that if the radio does ot respond to the Satellite radio the connector needs to be moved. Also have people had any problems moving the connector without damaging the trim?

It's not difficult at all. I've done 3 Audis and all of them needed the CAN-bus connector
to be connected. Again, it's not hard at all. You just have to be careful, but it's definitely not worth $800 to have someone else do it for you.

Re: CAN-bus connector
Passenger side kick out. Very easy to do. Take a look at the navplus.us forum for a detailed overview of the sirius install. I did mine a few weeks ago and it was done in less than an hour start to finish. Good luck!

http://www.navplus.us/</a

Seeing that you should be able to pick up a tuner somewhere between $200-$400...
(depending on whether you have Nav+ or not), it's still way too much money to pay for such a simple procedure. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the word, but it was really easy to do.

This is for an install in an A3, but the steps are pretty much the same...

it's Super Duper easy, the hardest part was figuiring out how to actually
unplug the CAN Bus plug (since it's a bit tricky to see how the plug latches) in the lower kick panel. Also the trim removal is pretty easy, all you have to do is PULL and when you re-install it, just slap it back.
Where are you located? If you are near the SF Bay Area, I'll do it for half the price
Kidding, but I would be willing to help out, shouldn't take more than about 10-15 mins.

Ok - I just ordered Sirius - thanks and a question
I ordered it from Don Rosen Imports for $280.08 with 2nd day shipping.
In the trunk, I opened the compartment for the receiver and can easly get to the wire/connectors
I seem to remember that there is a code when signing up with Sirius to get 3(?) free months and free activation. Does anyone know what it is?
Thanks for the help
