Default Audi 3.2 V6 vs. VW 3.6 V6

Can someone explain why Audi's top V6 engine is the 3.2 ltr. V6 engine producing 255-265 HP and not the 3.6 ltr V6 engine offered in the VW Passat? The VW Passat's 3.6 ltr V6 puts out 280 hp and seems like it should be used in the more expensive Audi A4 and A6.

Default the VW engine is a VR6. it is only used in transverse layouts

IMHO, the Audi 3.2 V6 w/ FSI is a more sophisticated and efficient engine- higher specific output and mileage.

Default 3.6 in Q7 is longitudal & FSI.....

IMO the 2.8,3.0,&3.2 aren't cutting it in the A4.

Default it's more than just engine placement..

it's part of Audi's philosophy to differentiate itself from VW.

That mean using only Audi engines and platforms.

In the near future, the VW 2.0T will be replaced by an Audi motor coded EA888. And by 2010, the R8 will have a baby brother, the R4. This will be built on a brand new platform.

Which means the TT will most likely be discontinued. Remember, the TT is built on VW's platform.

Audi has been seperating its dealerships from VW for awhile now, but have a ways to go to be completely free.

Default Re: 3.6 in Q7 is longitudal & FSI.....

I agree with you that the current Audi V6 engines aren't cutting it. Especially when the new A4 won't be available in the U.S. for over another year and will come to market with only 265 HP. The Infiniti G35 already hax 300+ HP and most likely will have more in a year or two.
It seems to me that there is to big of a gap between the 3.2 V6 and the 4.2 V8 in the S4.

Default The 300-hp engine from the Roadjet concept should have been the V6 choice

I agree that a lower priced Passat should not have a better engine than the more upscale A4 and A6 V6 models. I don't care about the transverse vs. longitudinal explanation. Audi needs a 280-300 hp V6 A4 and A6 to compete with the likes of 535i, G35, IS350 and 335i.

Default both are FSI

The VR6 can't be put into the A4. Yes, the 3.2 is "low" on power with only 265. But it should get very good fuel economy.

Default

I wish Audi would separate from VW all together.

Default I have read in AutoBild that V6 3.2 will be dropped in 2008 for A6

they have not said anything about other models (A4). Maybe Audi will replace 3.2 with both 3.6 and 2.8 to give more choices? 2.8 is already available on A6 in Europe together with 3.2.
