2009 A4 2.0T issue
I took my wife's '09 A4 in at 83,000 miles for 85,000 mile service as check engine light went on last weekend and the engine stumbles at low RPM.
We have had the car since new and have taken to same dealer for all service since new. Car has never been misused, never allowed to run low on oil, though it does go through some.
They advised that problem was oil separator which involved going into front of engine - $580.
After that was done, I get call yesterday morning from dealer. Engine still rough and throwing light. 'Brake fluid tests' show rear crank seal allowing air into engine case. Cost to repair $2,700. I have not authorized this yet. I know the local Audi district guy, gave him VIN# to look in on this as it should not happen at 80k.
I see in web search TSB#2015505-10 Oil leaks, pressure loss, engine two lean at idle and intake air system leak. May be whistle noise. (I do hear whistle, assumed it was valve on turbo.)
My concerns are: 1. Rear main seal should not be failing at 80,000 miles. 2. If the problem is rear crank seal, the oil separator replacement may unnecessary surgery and $580 spent. I have read that the oil separator has been an issue.
I fear that Audi will say 'sorry' due to mileage. At this point, I do not trust the quality of the 2.0 T motor or the technical expertise of the dealer. I am really concerned that Audi will not back me on this, even though we have two Audi's in the driveway.
Any familiarity on this problem?

Separator / rear main correlation
I had the same problem and ther definately is a correlation.
See beginning of paragraph 3:

$580 to replace separator is highway robbery.
In 2016, my sister was quoted $860 from a Dallas area Audi dealer.
My mechanic got part from dealer for $82 and it took him 20-30 min to replace.
But by then, the rear main was already blown.
Dealer denied being aware of the correlation.
Wondering if Audi ever issued a service bulletin about it?
Identical problem with VW's with 2.0T engine.
