A4 new owner
Hi all
I am a new owner of a 2009 A4 Quattro, I have some questions.
1. I have read a bit about the VAG-Com software and a "dongle" that works off ones smartphone, are there any others or which one is prefered?
2. As I only received 1 key with my ride, can a used key from another Audi of the same year be programmed into my vehicle so it will work or am I off to a dealer for a new one? I've read that the lock buttons can be programmed to work just not be able to start my car, is this correct
Thanks
Steve

I also have the 2009 A4 Quattro.
I don't know about question #1, but your key needs to be programmed and the channels on each side cut to match your ignition lock. Had the same deal with one key and had to go to a dealer and for a mere $ 200 they ordered a new key and then you had to bring the existing key to them so they could program the second one.
This maybe all dealer bull**** but I fell for it.

Well you can spend a grip and get a proper Ross Tech Vag-Com cable and VCDS software. You will also need a windows laptop to take out to the car.
Most of us have Carista. It's an app for iphone that takes to a wireless ODB scanner. Works great, can do a lot of little modifications like needle sweep, etc.... That scanner can also talk to apps like Dash Command which gives you realtime engine data like fuel mix, etc...
I think keys are expensive. No way around it.

Look into Carista, it may be all YOU need.
You can get a blank key off ebay for like $7 and get it cut buy someone with a laser machine. At least you open the door. Remotes (used) are cheap on ebay too. But then you have to get it programmed. I bought all this, but never got the key cut, nor the remote programmed.
