am I crazy ?
I need to do a filter and fluid change on my quattro avant. I'm having a hard time determining what fluid to use. I can get pentosin, redline and mobil 1 ATF locally but I have approx 20 quarts of castrol Transynd that I use in my truck and I'm debating trying it in the car. It's a ultra long life (100,000 miles in towing service) ultra shear stable automatic transmission fluid.
Several universal ATF's claim to meet for the TES295 spec from allison and the shell Shell. M1375.4. but no equivalency exist as Allison has blocked everyone but castrol from getting the approval
Has anyone tried anything like this ? run anything other than a lifegard fluid ? with good results ?

The transmission fluid in VAG cars is one thing I'd never experiment with.

I have no idea what a replacement cost for this transmission so you're probably spot on that I really don't want to run an experiment. It's just so tempting when I know the transynd is some of the best ATF you can buy for any amount of $$.
So what do people use ? only lifeguard 6 or any approved fluid ?

Lou, I haven't done my '11 car yet and don't know what the spec is. Miles are too low. I would check with Blauparts for product and pricing that's not nosebleed territory.

So after a lot of research im giving up on using what I have and I am going to put Chrysler Oil No. 68157995AA which is ZF approved if not manufactured and is only $38/liter VS $52 from Audi,
In a few more years when the car becomes a back up I may try to run my transynd experiment.....

I don't know where in MA you are but out here ( western ma) I have a great local parts source that usually beats the internet and can have most things they don't stock overnight

Lou, I see the 8HP fluid on eBay (from Blauparts) for $25/L.
