Hello,

The passenger side headlamp bulb just failed in my 2009 A4 Avant Premium. I'm able to get the rubber cover off and reach in to access the wires leading to the back of the bulb, but that's as far as I've gotten. It looks like I may have to remove the air filter housing.

First, am I attacking the bulb in the correct manner?

Second, am I correct that the air filter housing must be removed? If yes, are there more screws holding it in place than the obvious one near the fender?

Any help appreciated. I purchases the repair DVD from Bentley over a year ago, but incredibly they still have not updated their reader software for Windows 7. Windows 7 was already the only operating system sold by Microsoft when I bought the Bentley DVD manual, and so I've got a very expensive coaster from Bentley right now.

I used the search function to check out other related posts on these forums, but none of the threads I found were helpful to my car. My understanding is that the headlights are different on the Premium as opposed to the Premium Plus and Prestige.

If you can touch the back of the bulb then just pull it, it'll come out, otherwise you can: A-remove the air filter, B- remove the headlight. Both are easy to do.

The Audi way is to remove the lamp housing towards the front. Assuming it's the same procedure with halogen as Xenon, there are pictures and guidance here:
