I will try doing a oil change with 5W-40 first. I do use Castrol or Mobil (depend on which on sale) but both the same problem, but with 0W-40.
Will try that first. Thanks!

Also, I always been doing oil change with the Vaccum pump (instead of go under the car and unscrew the plug) I wonder if that has anything to do with it??
Vacuum oil change is not a problem. I usually check the oil level on the MMI and with my dipstick before I start to extract it. My extractor unit is marked at 4 qts and 5 qts. Because we maintain the oil level at full all the time I usually get 4 1/2 qts or more with the drain. I don't know the volume of the filter but we are close to better then 95% drained. Even pulling the plug you'll get about the same out. You'll never get it all but you don't need to.

Default Still same thing....

I just changed the engine oil (I still used 0W40 Mobil Full Syn because I have a gallon at home) and replaced the sensor too. (Bought from Audi for $140)
Sadly, exactly same thing (same warning), not even a little improvement.

Any other suggestion?
Really appreciated for any help!
BTW, Is changing to Castrol 5W40 really will make the warning goes away?? I dont mind doing another oil change....but logicalky speaking, I dont see how it helps?

It sounds like you have an oil pressure issue. There is a low oil pressure sensor that triggers a warning when the oil pressure is somewhere between 5-10 psi. Multi grade oils are thinnest when cold and change viscosity when warm. The base viscosity of a 0W-40 is "0". There are then additives in the oil which change the viscosity as the oil warms up. So with a cold engine and a low idle you are triggering the sensor. Now this could also be a bad sensor so you need to now take an oil pressure reading to verify if it is or if you have a problem with the oil pump or your bearings are going bad. My suggestion was to increase the viscosity of the oil to see if the pressure would go up and not trigger the sensor before you spend the time and money to have the oil pressure checked.

Thank you very much on the explanation! Should I jump to 10W40? Or start with 5W40?
Why I ask because 5W40, the number increase doesn't seems alot.

If you look in the OM it tells you to use only approved VW 502 spec. oil. I would start with the Audi recommended 5W-40. If you still have the problem then I would have someone check the oil pressure.

Default A4 3.2 Quattro 2008 Low Oil Level Warning

Hi All,

Recently bought a B8 2008 A4 3.2 Quattro.

It has recently been serviced by an Audi specialist just before I bought it.

When I bought it the oil level shown through MMI was good.

Driving a few days ago I got a low oil level warning, showing an empty bar graph and advising to add 1L oil, but still safe to resume driving. Opened the bonnet and this reset the warning, and after driving for another day got the same warning again, this time with a slightly higher oil level.

It is clear there are no oil leaks and seems unlikely it has burnt that much oil.

Is this likely to be a level sensor?

I assume there is a low oil pressure warning should the oil reach a critical low level?

Thanks

The 3.2 was not noted for oil consumption so if you do have this problem it is unusual. They had a valve carbon build up issue. I would get a dip stick and check it manually and see if it is a low oil issue or just a bad sensor. Also I assume you are checking the oil when the car is on level ground.

I found a dipstick hole with no dipstick so had this thought too. Any ideas where to get one?

As far as I know I am checking it on the flat, but have no idea when or how the oil level sensor works so who knows? I haven't left it running on the flat for a long period, just driving around normally.

It seems that the level sensor resets on opening the bonnet (hood) so I need to wait until it checks the level again.

Hey guys..
I have the exact same issue, 'Gilee_8' stated..on an A4 2009 2.0 Quattro, getting a 'Switch off engine and check oil level'. I received a low oil level warning coupla weeks ago so topped with a Castrol Edge OW-30 which I hope isn't the issue? The fault codes are P2279 and P2187. After a day started getting the check engine light. Per the thread, the issue could be using the 5W-40, a faulty PCV valve, a bad oxygen sensor. Any other suggestions or tips? I didn't see a resolution by the user above.
Thanks for the help,
James

hello everyone,

2009 a4 2.0t quattro and have similar problem:

After 10 min when engine warms up whenever i stop or drive very slow i get warming stop and check engine oil. When I check on MMI the oil is sufficient. The warning repeats everytime I stop so it is kind of annyoing.

Any ideas experience? Goong to take it to shop today...
