Default Finally got an IPhone 5s what do I need to play through speakers

Hi,

I have been using my IPod Touch to listen to music in my 2012 A4. The adapter that came with my A4 fits an IPod Touch but not an IPhone 5s. What kind of adapter do I need to be able to charge my IPhone and be able to listen to music?

You have two choices. You can use the same AMI cable with an Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter or an Audi AMI Lightning cable. The Apple adapter will be less expensive than the Lightning AMI cable. About $30 vs $80.

Is this it?

Lightning to 30-pin Adapter - Apple

Or is this backwards since it is a lightning to 30 pin not a 30 pin to lightning adapter.

This looks like the same thing at amazon for $10 more.

Default At least in my case...

… the adaptor was very finicky - I ended up buying the correct VW/Audi cable for my S4. A friend of mine just bought a new Jetta and he gave me the Lightening adaptor from his car as he has an Android. So I keep that one in the RS5 :-)

That's the one. Apple also makes this one with a cable.

I just grabbed the lightning adapter for my 2011 A4 with and when I select source from the MMI the AMI input says not compatible. Do i need to do a firmware upgrade on the MMI to support thunderbolt? I'm using an iPhone 6 with latest OS (9.2.1) if that helps.

I suggest buying the tune2air. Bluetooth is totally worth it. It connects automatically when you get in the car and doesn't interfere with your built in hands free (assuming you have hands free BT)

You can try rebooting the MMI and then do the same with the phone while the phone is connected. I've seen cases where that cleared the problem.

It's possible the 2011 A4 with MMI 2G does not support the iPhone 5 or later with the Lightning connector, though with the Apple brand adapter I don't see why it wouldn't. Do you have an older 30 pin iPhone or iPod Touch that works properly with the 30 pin AMI cable? Is the 30 pin to Lightining adapter and AMI cable Apple brand or knock offs?

It looks like I bought the wrong connector, the newer cable that passes video doesn't work on the older MMI units. ECS is exchanging the cable for the correct one, hopefully that fixes it!

Originally I'd ordered 4F0051510AL, but it looks like 4F0051510AC was the one I wanted.

The AL AMI cable supposedly replaced the AD cable. The AD might not work for video with the older MMI 3G either (MY2014+ A4 has the 3G+). Post your results when you get it.
