Default helping friend with oil pressure issue at low idle

Hi folks,

First time poster on the B8 forum, but as you can see LONG time member of AW and frequent poster in C5 and C6 forums, having owned both cars.

Well, I'm attempting to assist a friend of mine remotely who explained to me that they have an oil pressure problem, due to a CEL (he didn't give me the actual code so I could do some investigation). But also, has an issue which may be related or not, essentially the car idles very low at low rpms and when stopped, almost to the point of stalling. I'm not familiar with the 2.0T engine, but was hoping someone here might have some insight as to what to troubleshoot.

Also, could this issue be attributable to the concerns re: heavy oil consumption in earlier model B8s? BTW, his is a 09 B8 w/2.0T engine.

Any guidance would be appreciated and i'll be attempting to get the actual vag codes from him soon...unfortunately he's one of those that never invested in a ross-tech and I can't really be bothered mailing mine to him It'll force him to actually go to a good indy imho.

Thanks

Lower oil feeder hose or oil pump/screen? Maybe take out the filter and try again.

So the oil pump and lower feed hose were replaced to try to solve the issue, and the screen was thoroughly cleaned out, but the issue persists.

any other suggestions?

What is the oil pressure and at what idle speed (RPM). Also what is the code on the MIL. How do you know it is low oil pressure.

So the shop that did the work did do any oil pressure reading. Also, they did pull the MIL, but didn't have it handy.

However, they did tell me one piece of interesting news. When they dropped the oil pan to replace the pump they did see metal in the pan.

Personally, I think the engine is simply toast, but was wondering what others thought.

Lastly, any ideas on what a reman engine would run? + install?

Not having enough information makes it hard to determine what is the problem. If the shop has the pan pulled and sees metal then they should be able to tell you if the engine is toast. A used engine will run around $2000-$2500 and the labor should be around 8 hours. Good luck

I believe the shop doesn't want to outright say that the engine is toast, but they did recommend that if he hang onto the car, to replace the engine.

Not sure what the car is worth since a 2009 isn't worth a lot of $$ to start and one with a toast engine is worth a lot less. He's trying to see if I'd be interested in re-habing his car, but honestly it would have to be in the $6-$7K mark to even consider doing the work...especially with the engine replacement and the depreciation hit that takes on any vehicle.

I've seen 2.0T engines go from $1.5-$3K. However, I have a few questions:

Will any of the 2.0T engines work? Or is it a specific type?

What is a high mileage (over 100k) 09 A4 worth, one with an engine requiring replacement?
