It is really depressing to read about this problem with 2.0 engines that are not that old. I remember when the 2.0 first came out replacing the 1.8 and it was supposed to be one of the greatest engines ever built. Instead, it has been nothing but problems with the oil issue, coils and faulty fuel injectors. When the engine is running properly, it is fantastic, but this should never have happened on a luxury line of vehicles like Audi.

I agree 100%. There are several problems with this engine, one being faulty internal parts materiels leading to the excessive oil consumption and two, engineering design flaws of the direct injection leading to excessive carbon deposits on the valves. I know first hand as I have them both. : (
You are spot on when you say "this should never have happened on a luxury line of vehicles like Audi.".

Do I read you correctly that you went 4k+ miles on a quart of oil and you got approved for the piston and rings job? Last time I heard they would not do that for more than 2k per quart.
Mine seems to be deteriorating a bit - not sure if it will make 5k on a quart since the last time I added oil. It did 3k per quart before part 1 and was pushing 6k after that. I have 42k on the odometer.

Yes that's correct. Honestly I'm as surprised as you. I was advised that Part 2 is a 2 hour procedure so the final determination could be more than just oil consumption. Speculating, maybe there's a 'field test' for oil contaminants or presence of any metallic substances.

To qualify for a Part 2, as my dealer explained to me, was 1 quart of oil in 1000 miles or less. My car was at 1 qt per 600 miles. They charged me 10% of the part 1+2 cost.

Your dealer did part 1 and you paid for some of the work? Why?
If it fails along the way with additional consumption and part 2 is needed are you financially responsible? I'd raise a flag to Audi over this.
We had all of part 1 & 2 done with a loaner in both stages at no cost to us.
I don't get it.

They did part 1 for free, replacing an oil pcv and gasket and some programming. I paid to replace a check valve on the oil that was an old TSB.

I had part 1 done, which got me up to about 2500m/qt. (from about 1500). I never went back for further testing or measurement, as I didn't think they'd do anything for 2500.

Because 4000 miles on 1 quart is within spec. I thought the book for my car said 1 qt/1000 miles was expected.
