That means he put in too much oil.
Take it back immediately.

+1. You've got to be grossly over-filled to get that warning.

Dreamer, has the "mechanic" ever worked on an Audi before? Could he have forgotten to drain the old oil before re-filling with the 5 qts

Yes, he has been my mechanic for a long time and even before i got the audi i asked him if he serviced Audis and he said yes. Maybe i will give him a call and discuss to see exactly what he did.....i have heard that audi dealers have done that same thing before, so at least i know it is not uncommon.

I just talked to my mechanic, and he said he drained the old and put 5 quarts in. He said to bring it in on monday and he will use a dipstick to measure and see why i am getting the message.

Don't know if it matters but the manual says the car takes 4.9 quarts. The filter retains some oil as well. Was it changed at the same time?

The extra .1 of a qt. will not set this message. You would need more then 1/2 a qt for the message to come up. It almost sounds like he drained the oil and did not change the filter and then added 5 qts. By the way 5 qts with a filter change is OK

If he has dip stick (audi) why didn't he check the oil level with it after oil change?
