Default 3D Cities and Landmarks?

Folks,

In Map Settings there are options for 3D cities and 3D Landmarks (I think that's what they're called) and both boxes are checked but greyed out. Are those options not available or maybe do they only become available when you are in a city that's mapped in 3D? Didn't know if there was something I needed to do to make buildings appear in 3D, only because that would be very cool.

You have to scale down to 100ft or even 50ft or 30ft and be in a city that has 3D data. In Chicago it worked already in my 2012 A6 but I haven't paid any attention to this in the B9.

Do you have Google Earth turned on?

Yip, Google earth is on. I'm probably just not in a city with a 3D Map, or perhaps as the above poster said maybe I need to be zoomed way in. I'll play around with it and see if I can find a local 3D city to play with to make sure it's working. Thanks all.

Just checked, doesn't work with Google Earth turned on but it works without Google Earth at 100ft in downtown Chicago

That's why I asked. Google Earth and 3D Map are mutually exclusive. You can only have one or the other. Doesn't make much sense to draw the 3D buildings on top of the satellite images.

Unless Audi used the "true" Google Earth which does show city 3D buildings when zoomed in and not just an overhead 2D satellite view. Google Earth as implemented in the MMI is actually a misnomer - it's really just the satellite view overlay on the Audi internal map, the same view as found in Google Maps in a web browser or app.
