6MT reviews?
#11
I have a few questions since I can't seem to find one to test drive:
- When I drove the DSG w/o sport suspension, it felt like a quick and nimble, but "normal" car. It had no sportiness DNA. It felt like a nice sedan. I'm looking for more of a sports sedan feel. Wondering if the 6MT would help provide that sports sedan feel that I definitely get with my 2012 6MT B8.
- The dreaded Quattro Ultra. It's probably impossible for an average person to assess the new technology vs. traditional...but.... have you?
- How is the launch off the line? The B8 has a "torque personality" that you really needed to know how to launch at 0MPH to get the right power out of it. Similar dynamic?
Thx.
Jon

There is nothing dreaded about quattro ultra. You will not be able to tell any difference. The car is completely neutral and the system is engaged before you ever need it. You won't have wheelslip or anything of that sort.
As for the sporty feel, yes, it very much feels like that thanks to the dynamic steering which completely changes the feel of the car, and the sport adaptive suspension which has a very firm and sport ride, and has no body roll.
As for the launch off the line, it is better than before. The additional power from the motor makes the car much better to drive, especially the 1-2 shift, although the gear ratios are almost identical to the B8. At 5.7 seconds 0-60, the car is no slouch.

1. What are approx. RPM in 6th gear cruising at 80 on the highway? Wondering because I'm "borrowing" a '17 Premium+ auto and I can cruise at 80 at about 1600 RPM. My 2012 6MT was at about 2500 at 85. Wondering if '17 6MT will be closer to '17 auto or my old 6MT.
2. Cup holders - work great in '17 with auto, but pictures show different config. with 6MT - does shifter get in the way?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'll be picking up my 6MT Premium+ with Sports+ package by the end of this week. The only worry I have is that the Sports+ package came only with the Summer Tires instead of All Season. Would these crack in the cold?

2. Cup holders are quite well located, and cups therein don't interfere with the shifter, nor does the shifter interfere with accessing your drink.

No, they just don't have much grip in the cold, and are useless if there is any contaminant (snow, for example) on the road.

At temperatures under 45 degrees Fahrenheit you should switch to all-season or winter tires.

You will find the gear ratios virtually identical to the B8. I can provide the exact ratios if requested.

Thanks for info on the gear ratios. I do a fair amount of highway driving and was hoping 6th gear was taller than B8, closer to B9 auto, for gas mileage purposes. Also, my trusty indie mechanic indicated that running close to 3,000 rpm for 2-3 hours (my typical highway cruise) can cause slightly increased oil consumption.
Oh well, rather live with those things and drive stick than drive an auto! Thanks again.

Pensive - please post pics and driving review when you have a moment. I'm thinking about ordering your car.
