Default Am I crazy or is Audi or both?

Ok, so I ordered the front license plate fillers from Audiparts - at a discount, mind you. About $28.00 each piece - plus 13.00 shipping and tax - came to over $70.00. Ok, forget the tax and shipping ($13.00 shipping - package weighs less than 1 lb and was only 12 miles away) but 56.00 for these 2 pieces of plastic - maybe 4" tall? I mean did the cost Audi about a couple of bucks each? I get that companies have to make a profit and I ain't a cheap guy - I just spent almost 4k on Expel, coating, 034 tranny mount, front strut bar, puddle lights on my Allroad and hardly batted an eye, but, wtf, I just feel like I got taken on this one - not from the dealer, but from Audi. I'm tempted on principle alone just to send them back.

That looks different than all the other fillers I've seen, including the one I have...

This is the one many of us have:

If it makes you feel any better, the 2 thin strips for the Q7 are $100.

This is for the Allroad, not A4.

How could the Allroad version cost $56 but the A4 only $20? Lower availability maybe. Did you check other retailers? Perhaps one with better shipping charges? Europa Parts only charged me $5.42 shipping for the A4 plate filler.

It is a blatant rip-off and causes some very "ill-will feelings" from their owners. Why they choose to do this on such rudimentary parts is beyond me. i needed 4 small plastic covers on the inside of my TT for a project I did.....$56 EACH! I ordered the identical thing from China and had it shipped across the ocean for $12...for all 4! I understand the need for profit and for markup, but this just reeks of pure greed. I mean....4 little plastic do-dads and I had payed 20% of a $1000 headlight assembly?!?!? It's not just you that is kind of taken back and irritated....

Or maybe Audi can just design plates that screw on and include them in the trunk of every car, like VW and Porsche do. If the customer wants it, screw it on, if not, leave it in the trunk.

I don't blame you. It is expensive and Audi charges a lot for that. I'd say, just for brand name alone.
For example, there was a part I checked out in India for my VW. VW wanted around $300 for it. For the exact same part, Skoda wanted $225 for it and when I checked the Audi dealership, they wanted $1000. The prices are rough converts but the part (an auto dimming rear view mirror) was the exact same thing with same part number that could be used interchangeably with various models.
What did I do? Like farmerjones, I bought it from China (original VW part) for $90.

If it came from China, chances are it was not OEM. China is famous for their knockoffs of everything, like all of the grills and rear spoilers you can get for ridiculously cheap prices.
