Audi A4 B9 modelyear 2017-SIM card Audi Connect
Hi all,
I just received my new Audi A4 Avant modelyear 2017
during 3 months I have the audi connect with the built in sim card.
after that trial period, I need to buy a sim card and put in the slot.
what SIM card does I need and how many data is the car using per month?
With regards

I asked Audi Customer Experience via email about getting a SIM card and they told me it cant be done because there is already a SIM integrated. I have seen other postings saying it can be done, just trying to confirm as my initial few months expires and not sure if it is really worth keeping.

In the US a personal SIM can be activated (not via Audi dealer though) and has been confirmed working for WiFi Hotspot only (without AudiConnect subscription and without AudiConnect services like Google Earth). Any of the AudiConnect services requires an active AudiConnect subscription which also covers all data used by AudiConnect (as well as 6GB of WiFi hotspot data).
Other regions have other plans and services.

It is really confusing, he?
This is what I learned up to now.
in the car, a sim card is integrated.
At this moment I am using the 3 months free subscription by Audi.
I also subscribed the Audi Connect on my computer.
With this, I can make adresses in MyAudi on the computer, and use them in the car.
I also uses the online traffic information about congestions and so.
As well the looking for new destinations in the car by Google.
The car has also an empty SIM card slot in the glovebox.
I understand from the manual that you can choose to continue the free subscription by
or,
using the Audi integrated sim card and subscribing a contract with Audi's phone provider DataInside
or
use a separate sim card from anothe phone provider
The manual of the car does not specify a difference in functions between both.

It would help if you would tell us where the car was sold and when the car was build, that determines what AudiConnect features are included.
First, a personal/external SIM card will not give you access to AudiConnect features like Google Earth, Search, Online traffic, etc. For all those services you need an active AudiConnect subscription because they are licensed for a limited period of time. You can check the license status if you click the right button on the MMI when in AudiConnect and select License overview or similar.
In the US, AudiConnect and WiFi Hotspot is included for 6 month, after that the subscription has to be renewed. Each subscription after the free trial includes 6GB of WiFi hotspot data.
In Germany AudiConnect is included for 3 years with the Navigation Plus and 3 months with the small Navigation (no Plus). Either subscription does not include WiFi hotspot data as far as I remember.
Other countries may be different.
