Default Car service disabled lane assist & high beam

Please note:

I brought the vehicle for 10K oil service (P+ that I coded lane assist & auto high beam using OBD11 and has been working lawlessly for the past 3 months), and there were 2 software updated performed:

CAMPAIGNS
COMPLAINT
CUSTOMER HAS AN OPEN 45E3 SOFTWARE UPDATE
CAUSE
DETECTED AVAILABLE CAMPAIGN 45E3 PER AUDI
CORRECTION
TECHNICIAN PERFORMED,COMPLETED CAMPAIGN 45E3 PER AUDI

* I am not sure what the above is. When asked I was told it was a software update related to the stability control. Can someone confirm?

CAMPAIGNS
COMPLAINT
CUSTOMER HAS AN OPEN 97CB SIDEMARKER LIGHT CAMPAIGN
CAUSE
DETECTED AVAILABLE CAMPAIGN 97CB PER AUDI
CORRECTION
TECHNICIAN PERFORMED,COMPLETED CAMPAIGN 97CB PER AUDI

* We are all familiar with the above.

On the ride home I noticed that the "auto-high beam" feature had been disabled and although the gray lines were shown for the lane assist, they would never turn green and no input was ever provided by the vehicle to correct or nudge the steering.

Upon further inspection, the below bit was turned off. I am not sure which software update reset this instruction.

09 - Central Electrics
Heading Control Config>heading_control | Byte 35>Bit 0

After going through all of the coding to ensure everything else is correct, then turning it off and on again using the OBDEleven, it worked for a few minutes, but then it stopped again. It is unussually foggy tonight, so I will have more feedback tomorrow.

I did not look at the headlight assist, but will review the coding tomorrow.

Lesson of the day is that if you have the above coded, expect to at a minimum have to do it again. I just remember that I need to check the following to ensure they are still working properly:

09 - Central Electrics
Coding->drl_at_indication_config->dimming_to_sl

Activate rear tail lights with DRL in Auto mode
09 - Central Electrics
Coding->signiturelight_config-> signaturelight_with_tailight

What I found on campaign 45E3

- ESP control unit: optimization of parking brake management
- Combination instrument: optimization diagnosis
- Engine control unit: optimization of cooling water temperature control
- Door control unit: detection of door contact switch
- Rear axle: attachment of stone impact protection
- tailgate drive: attachment of stone impact protection

Same thing happened with my VCDS tweaks that deals with the Convenience Module in my S5. When I brought in in for a software update, some of the VCDS settings I made went back to stock (i.e. turned off). I have yet to find time to re-do these lost settings. I'll do them again sometime soon.

I hope it's just a matter of redoing the codes. I love auto high beam assist a little too much to lose that feature!!!!

Lane assist working as it did before, after re-coding.

The dense fog contributed to the mixed results after re-coding last night, however it worked as it always has this morning.

I have not had the time to re-code any other functionality that has been disabled, including the side marker light.

I did discover some damage to the car. Trying to work directly with the dealer to determine who/how it could have been done and how it can be repaired. Not a very happy guy right now. I hope to share soon.

Yes, the fix for the side marker recall will undo some of the changes you made for lane assist and high beams. Just redo and all should be well.

Another observation: The thump at the driver's side wheel well at 25MPH, is now 2 slightly softer thumps at the same speed.

Given the ESP related software update campaign that was just performed, my guess is that this behavior has slightly changed as a result of that reprogramming.

Mine was always 2 ticks at 25MPH!! And yes. It does reduce in intensity as the miles pile on. I'm at 1065 miles and it is much better than when it was brand new.

correct. The update is for 09 central electrics and resets to default. It wasn't a selective erasing of coding.

Hmmm...sounds familiar....
I know a guy here who is really specialized in VCDS but only for VW Passat. When I asked him about Audi and VCDS tweaks, he told me that whenever you do some changes, they will be set back to their default when you bring in your car for maintenance....
Looks like he's right....
