My dealer just called and said that they are doing the "software updates" now and that my car will arrive for sure by Tuesday January 31st... If they are really doing them now then I would think there is a chance the car could be here in Minnesota sooner. He said there are "a lot" of cars getting this update.

Hope you get yours soon. They are wasting your time depriving you of driving one of the best cars on the road!

I am actually considering getting a S4 instead and probably have the car around the same time as my car is still sitting at the port here is the USA with no ETA on release.

Default my custom Prestige en route, sales hold since 11/30

Good thing for them Audi makes great cars, because if not nobody would put up with dealers that just blow customers off!

I placed a custom order for a Prestige on 10/15- it was built in late December and is now en route on the Cygnus Leader off the west coast of Mexico bound for San Diego. It's been on a "sales hold" since 11/30, and my salesman at Newport Audi has simply ignored me twice when I've asked him to check. Then I called the sales manager, who has ignored my email and phone call. I've had 5 BMWs- and the difference in dealer responsiveness is just night and day.

My better half is on his 3rd Audi- and it's always seemed like the dealer is "doing you a favor" to sell one at 5-10% off, but it feels like begging to buy a $52k car!

For what it's worth-
Ocean Shipping Vessel 418
Holds Type Distribution
Holds Type Stop Sale
Holds effective date 11/30/16

Production Week 5016

Domestic Port Arrived 01/30/2017(ETA)

It's a Prestige (non-ultra), automatic, driver assistance package. I don't have a spare car so it'll be me and Lyft if I don't get the car by late Feb. Either that- or- I'll have to kill this and lease an E300. Any new news would be greatly appreciated, as my dealer just doesn't bother to reply. Thanks everyone.

If I were you, I'd just forget it and buy another car. The A4 is a great car but the way the dealer is treating you just isn't right. I would either go with Audi (another dealer) and maybe get a car they already have in stock or I would just buy a different brand (E300 since you are looking at one). The E300 is in a different category and, if you aren't interested in performance and driving pleasure, it is a nice car.

I couldn't agree with you more. When the original A5/S5 was introduced I tried to get a timeline on when they would be arriving at dealerships. The salesmen were clueless. Seems to me, one told me it would be within a month, then I got a call back saying it would be 6 months, then they had no idea. It was ridiculous. Audi headquarters seems to have no communication with their dealerships. Hopefully someone on this forum will receive some updated news soon so you can feel more comfortable.

Seems as all cars need software flashed and also 3rd party inspection as per the agreement between VW Group NA and the EPA and they are on a 3 year probation period. So every car is currently being re-flashed and inspected and that is what is taking all the time. Customer custom orders are pulled to the front of the line over dealer stock. Timely process and Audi should communicate better with the dealer network.

Could you share where this information came from? This is very useful for those of us with cars on sales hold.

Default Thank you, I reluctantly walked away

I'm sorry to say I did walk away yesterday.

After no response to 4 pleas for any information, spread over 6 weeks to my salesman and his manager, I felt I had to consider alternatives. And once at a Mercedes dealership, I did like the E300 but really liked the professionalism. A total of 6 people, from salesman to tech specialist etc encouraged a long thorough test drive, then insisted I see every car on their lot to be certain of options etc. It's what I'd come to expect from BMW- but never from Audi dealers.

The E isn't as sporty or handles as well I'm sure, but it's solid, quiet, roomy their tech (like audi) is first rate. Plus, a car that lists for $15k more (w/ my options) only added $1k *over* a 3 year lease. Perhaps due to residual values of 54% (Audi) vs 62% MB.

We'll order an '18 Q5 for my husband when we can, from a different dealer. And for those of you that can wait and tolerate what you get or don't get from your dealer, I'm sure you'll be rewarded. And mostly, thank you all as you were the only source of information I had that helped inform my decision.

ps- I did an advanced search on cars dot com and found other prestige/driver assistance cars. Walters in Riverside, Dan, was sympathetic and very helpful (he'll see us again). There are exactly 2 cars like this in CA, both in northern CA, and a special order that arrived on 1/3/17 is still in port on a stop sale with no eta.
